Douglas Major Great Dane - Golden Afternoon by The-Toy-Chest Douglas Major Great Dane - Golden Afternoon by The-Toy-Chest
These are more "artsy" shots rather than serious collector pics but the sun was coming in really nicely this evening and was making my room a luxurious golden color. My photos only captured a small amount of that glory but I liked them well enough to post. This will be moved to scraps later.

Subject of the photos is Major the harlequin Great Dane made by Douglas Cuddle Toys. I passed on him back when he was readily available; he has since been retired and is now near impossible to find for sale. I lucked out while visiting a specialty toy store a few days ago and, though he was more than what I wanted to spend that day, I knew another chance to buy him was pretty slim so I nabbed him.

Major was released with three other reclining dogs of similar sizes. Silver the greyhound: [link] , Peter the Bernese Mountain Dog: [link] , and Outback the Australian Shepherd: [link] .

And that little photobomber in the back is my Safari Ltd. woolly mammoth replica. :XD:

Acquired: Specialty toy store
Company: Douglas Cuddle Toys
Item Number #356
Year Produced: 2008
Country of origin: China
Size: About 20 inches (51 cm) long

So handsome! I really hope they'll make a harlequin 16" one in time; I have the fawn-coloured one and he's just magnificent! He needs a buddy or a mate who's the same breed, since it can be tough when you're the tallest dog in the pack! xD

Ah, I've been contemplating getting the fawn one but I have not seen one in person so have been hesitant to buy one since I like to hand-pick them. I hand-picked my Douglas Kita earlier this year and am so glad I did because all the other ones I've seen have derpy face problems. :XD:

And maybe your fawn Dane will end up with a mate smaller than him. I see it all the time in RL. :)

That's my Leon! Crappy camera quality, but he's very beautiful. He has a slightly dark ridge down his back which I love; the airbrush work overall is nice!

But I get what ya mean about seeing in person; I'm very much the same way cause the catalog images don't always match 100%. Especially when they randomly decide to change the designs but don't update the catalog image. xD

Perhaps! Dunno, I just love the 16" dogs best! I hope they'll make more German shepherds and huskies though. x3

He looks cool! And you say he has airbrushing down his back? That's really awesome; I love details like that. Is his fur similar to the other 16" floppy dogs? It looks almost shiny in your photo of him.

And yeah, aside from Douglas's old line of lifesize 36" dogs, their 16" floppy dogs are my favorites with the older ones being the best quality in my eyes. Not a big fan of a lot of their newer products. This being why I was immensely and pleasantly surprised when they came out with Kita this year. I love that dog!

His fur is very much like the other dogs; soft like velvet!
I updated his photo, so he looks better. xD

Yeah, some of the newer dogs just don't look good in certain poses or styles. Like Andre the Apricot Poodle; ugh, I despised that style when compared to dogs like the new Akita. xD

The lying down floppy style is good for cuddling but when it comes to Douglas 16" floppies, I like 'em how they've been doing them for the past decade or so. It upsets me to see their line change so drastically over the past few years. -_- But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do to stay in business, right? :/

Yeah, but I think they're doing okay as far as a business goes! 58 years is a long time. x3

Surprisingly, the company does listen to their consumers feedback; I sent them a powerpoint 2 years back, asking them to make an Akita plushie and why they should...sure enough, we now have Kita. xD

If a lot of people go to them and say we want a specific breed that isn't too obscure, they may make one. It's a matter of just coming to a general consensus of what consumers/the market would like to see?

Huh, that is really cool. Hopefully enough people will get vocal about a 16" floppy Doberman pup because I would happily buy one of of them right up! :meow:
